Daniel Schwab

Daniel is the Founder and CEO of Brightmerge, whose mission is to provide property developers with affordable micro-grid solutions for their tenants’ electricity needs.

Previously he founded Kayema Energy Solutions (PTY) Ltd., a leading integrator of renewable energy solutions in Africa. Daniel was its CEO and in 2015 sold the company to NRG Renew (NYSE:NRG). Kayema received the Energy Company of the Year Award from the South African Association for Energy Efficiency.

Daniel also established BrightSource Energy Inc. in Southern Africa generating over $1bn in the sales pipeline. In 2011, BrightSource was nominated for the Energy Project Award from the South African National Energy Association.

Through his various ventures, Daniel has supplied solutions to some of Africa’s leading corporations, including Standard Bank, Legacy Group, Vodacom, Nestle, SAPPI and Sasol.

Previously Founder and CTO Gaonic, a cloud-based real-time Internet-of-things platform; VP Research and Development at Mainnet Communications, global provider of turn-key solutions and services for broadband powerline communications (BPL/PLC) market. Stanford University, an MBA from the Open University of Israel, BSc. Computer Science and Mathematics from University of Haifa. Software Engineer at Telrad.

Rafael Cohen
Head of Engineering

Rafael has more than 25 years of professional experience and success in the electrical engineering and Information Technology fields. He specializes in off-grid solar photovoltaic battery systems, smart grid solutions, power control systems, LED lighting, digital and analog circuits and microcontrollers, and automatic metering reading (AMR) systems.

Most recently Rafael has used his expertise to enable technology development companies to identify high quality, efficient manufacturers in Asia for electronic components and products for low cost, mass production.

Rafael’s knowledge set in both power storage and AMR systems are an excellent fit for Brightmerge’s clients.

Kumesh Naidoo
Vice President,
Business Development

Kumesh is a chemical engineer with extensive management experience in renewable energy.

From 1997 – 2004 Kumesh held several managerial positions at Eskom Enterprises, followed by a year of consulting to the South African Department of Energy on renewable energy.

He worked in the clean energy division of CEF (SOC) Ltd from 2007 – 2015 including projects in the areas of solar energy, photovoltaics and wind energy.

Kumesh’s business expertise, combined with a deep understanding of clean energy generation will be a great asset to Brightmerge.

Eitan Katz

Previously, special advisor to the Israel Air Force accelerator; Head of the Global Incubator – Hewlett Packard Software; graduate of IDF Computer Science school; B.A in Political Science and Computer Science from Bar Ilan University.

Greg Gow
Project Manager

Greg has qualifications in both the electrical and business fields. He worked for many years in Eskom fulfilling a number of roles related to power generation and distribution in the framework of power stations.

Greg’s subsequent role was in electrical distribution installations and maintenance, where he was a technical manager and later a property portfolio manager.

For the last 15 years has been an independent development consultant and property project manager.
